KABUL (PAN): Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, the new speaker of the lower house, was born into an influential family in Imam Sahib district in northern Kunduz province in 1963.

He received primary education at Basus middle school in the district and then studied at a madrassa until 12th grade in Takharistan in Kunduz.

He was accepted to study literature at Kabul University, but before he could begin his education, he was arrested by Soviet troops for allegedly cooperating with the mujahideen.
